永嘉大师证道歌浅释 (72)
师子吼,无畏说,
百兽闻之皆脑裂;
香象奔波失却威,
天龙寂听生欣悦。
佛说法好像狮子吼;这「百兽」是什麽呢?百兽就是旁门左道,邪说异端这一类的宗教,
都把它们譬喻为百兽。天魔外道,就好像百兽一听见狮吼,吓得大小便也不知不觉就都流
出来,就那麽厉害,被吓得不知如何是好!天魔外道一听见佛说这个正法音,也吓得战战
兢兢,恐惧不安了。
Figuratively speaking, the Buddha proclaiming the Dharma is like a lion roarin
g. And what are ‘myriad beasts?’ They are the cults and religious sects that
propagate wrong teachings. Those celestial demons and heterodox cults are lik
e the myriad beasts. When the myriad beasts hear the lion’s roar, they are te
rrified and become incontinent. The roar is that powerful and thee beasts are
left not knowing what to do! Upon hearing the Buddha proclaiming the right Dha
rma, the celestial demons and heterodox cults are so frightened that they trem
ble with fear and become restless.
「香象」就是外道的领袖;外道领袖他神通也都丢了,智慧也都没有了,也令他那个徒众
都不佩服了,「失却威」了。可是,天龙八部、护法善神,乃至於十方诸佛菩萨,都在那
儿皆大欢喜,欢喜踊跃赞叹。
‘Fragrant Elephant’ refers to the leader of the heterodox cults. As the hete
rodox cult leader loses his spiritual power along with his wisdom, his followe
rs soon lose their respect for him. And so the Fragrant Elephant ‘loses its a
we.’ But the deities, dragons and others of the Eightfold Divisions, Dharma-
protecting spirits, and even the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas throughout the ten d
irections are all overjoyed, eagerly praising the Buddha’s proclamation of th
e Dharma.
所以我们信佛的人,不可以再去参加旁门外道那一些个邪说异端来诱惑人,令人生出来争
心、贪心、有所求的心、自私的心、自利的心;一天到晚专门在那儿打妄语,讲假话来骗
人。你这样子,都像这个百兽脑都裂了,一闻见正法,也都吓得寝不安席,食不甘味了。
你们各位既然走到佛教的大乘的门里边了,不要再误入歧途,走错路,信那种欺骗人的宗
教;天天都是给自己往脸上贴金,不看看全身都是在那非常邋遢的里边生活着!
So as followers of the Buddha, we should never join those heterodox cults who
use wrong teachings to allure people, leading people to fight, to be greedy, t
o seek, to be selfish, and to benefit themselves. From dawn till dusk, they fo
cus on making false speech, and telling lies to cheat others. If you do the sa
me, you are no different from the myriad beasts whose brains split open when h
earing the right Dharma. They are so terrified that they cannot sleep peaceful
ly and don’t even know the flavor of the food which they eat. Since every one
of you has entered the gateway to Mahayana Buddhism, don’t get lost again by
taking the wrong road, or believe in those religions that cheat people, boast
ing about themselves every day without even looking at how filthy they are!
佛说四十二章经浅释
第五章‧转重令轻
佛言:人有众过,而不自悔,顿息其心。罪来赴身,如水归海,渐成深广。若人有过,自
解知非。改恶行善,罪自消灭;如病得汗,渐有痊损耳。
这一段文是第五章,劝勉人有过能改,改过自新。你有过若不能改,那过是永远存在的;
你若能改过自新,罪就消灭了,没有了。
佛言:人有众过:这个众过就包括所有一切的过失、一切的罪过。
而不自悔:你有什麽罪过,自己若不改悔,还覆讳过失,就是掩藏遮盖自己的过错,不教
人看见、不教人知道,这叫不知而不自悔,自己不知道忏悔。
顿息其心:你不知道忏悔,你把改过的心顿然停止了。停止,也就是没有改过的心。 罪
来赴身,如水归海:你停止这改过的心呀,等这罪来到你身上的时候,就好像小水流入大
海一样, 渐成深广:渐渐地,小过也变成大过,小罪也变成大罪了,轻的业障也变成重
的业障了,所以就渐成深广。
若人有过:假设人有过,「弥天大罪,一悔便消。」罪业有天那麽大,这叫弥天大罪。你
罪业和天一样大,要是能忏悔,这罪就消灭了,没有了。
自解知非:你要忏悔,自己解开罪业这个结,知道自己的错误。
改恶行善,罪自消灭:你改种种的恶行,变成善行,做善事。你若能改过自新,那罪孽就
消灭了,就没有了。
如病得汗,渐有痊损耳:就像什麽呢?就好像你有病的时候,出了一身汗,渐渐地这病就
会痊癒,就都没有了。
第六章‧忍恶无瞋
佛言:恶人闻善,故来扰乱者,汝自禁息,当无瞋责。彼来恶者,而自恶之。
这是第六章,说明了善能胜恶,恶不能胜善。前一章教人止恶行善,改过自新;但又恐怕
有这种人,他怕自己做善事,有恶人来扰乱,所以佛又说这一章经。
佛言,恶人闻善,故来扰乱者:佛说,这恶人听见有善人做善事,他故意来给你麻烦。扰
乱就是给你添麻烦,来破坏你做善事。
汝自禁息:这个时候,你要自己禁息,要很冷静,很镇静的,不要慌,不要nervous(紧
张)。
当无瞋责:你不要生瞋恨心,也不要责骂他,不要说他不对。
彼来恶者:那麽这个来扰乱你、破坏你、给你麻烦的人, 而自恶之:他是给他自己麻烦
,破坏他自己,他是和他自己过不去。这就好像什麽呢?就好像有一面明镜,在这明镜里
头,现出一个很丑陋的相貌。这很丑陋的相貌,是他自己在镜子里现出来的,不是镜子本
身是丑陋的。
这就是说恶人怎麽样坏,也是他自己的,坏他自己;你要是不理他,就没有事了。你若一
理他,怎麽样啊?你就和他归夥了,你也变成恶人,和他一个样子。
