Rumours have been swirling over the last few days that the original line-up of the Manchester band - Ian Brown, guitarist John Squire, bassist Gary "Mani" Mounfield and drummer Alan "Reni" Wren - will reform for two hometown gigs next year. When rumours originally began to circulate on Friday (October 14), Wren was quick to suggest that he would have no involvement after he sent NME a cryptic message distancing himself from any planned reunion. But yesterday (October 17) Brown reportedly confirmed that the much talked about reunion is definitely taking place after a text from the singer to magician Dynamo stated: "We are going to rule the world again. It's happening." The new reunion reports come six months after The Sun reported that Brown and Squire had "buried the hatchet", paving the way for a comeback. The story was hinged on the pair meeting at Mani's mum's funeral, the first time the pair were believed to have met since 1996. Mani subsequently refuted the reports, calling them "total fantasy island gear" and telling NME he was "disgusted that my personal grief has been invaded and hijacked by these nonsensical stories.
