The releases, which will be followed by a video next month, precede a collaboration between Graham Coxon, Paloma Faith and The Choral’s Bill Rider Jones and comes as the shoe brand looks to link itself with the UK music scene. As a teaser a short film – the first of three featuring Sumner – will also be released through Converse and will be distributed alongside the new track. All the songs will be available to download for free from the Converse website and Converse chief marketing officer Geoff Cottrill adds the move is part of a year-long campaign by the company to celebrate British music. His artistic and musical contribution is featured on all seven of Blur’s studio albums, and he is credited as a songwriter and lyricist on many of Blur’s hits. The cover of 1999’s 13 was also designed by Coxon. Besides guitar, he is famous for recording his albums single-handedly, without much help from session musicians. ★★★Bernard Sumner http://www.converseblog.com/uk/2010/10/bernard-sumner/ Bernard Sumner was a founding member of Joy Division, a post-punk band formed in 1976. As the band’s lead guitarist, Sumner also played keyboards for synth parts with additional vocal appearances. After the death of Joy Division’s singer, Sumner and the remaining members started New Order where Sumner emerged as the band’s permanent lead vocalist and lyricist. Both Joy Division and New Order are widely considered two of the most influential bands of the era. In 1989, Sumner joined up with former Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr to form Electronic where Sumner was the lead vocalist and lyricist. In 2007, he formed Bad Lieutenant as vocalist.
