The album's songs were written over the last year and recorded at the Nashville studio of Lambchop's Mark Nevers. Staples enlisted the help of several friends for the creation of the record, from both inside and outside of The Tindersticks. Collaborators include keyboardist David Boulter, guitarist Neil Fraser, percussionist Thomas Belhom, trumpeter Terry Edwards and vocalist Gina Foster.
