(a.k.a Cat Power)将会在一月二十四日全球 发行，她三年来的唯一一张全新的创作『The Greatest』 (并不是精选集唱 片)，离她的上一张非常受乐评界和商业界好评的专辑『You Are Free』刚好 满三年。 You Are Free ___________________________________________________________________ 『You Are Free』在发行当时因为Chan巡回台湾和日本的原因，让台湾成为 世界第一个发行『You Are Free』的国家，随着当时爆满的演出，在发行当 时也造成轰动，登上了几乎台湾许多比较主要大型唱片行西洋榜的后座。而 在当年年终更在许多传媒的好评下，不但CNN为她做了专题特辑，『You Are Free』更顺利在当年成为全球最受注目的专辑唱片之一。而当年除了夺下美 国Neumu年度最佳专辑冠军和英国Drowned in Sound年终最佳专辑的第三名， 其余入选当年十大年度最佳专辑的还包括英美的主要传媒The Wire, Rolling Stone (美、英、澳三国都入选), Stylus , Entertainment Weekly, No Ripcord , Rough Trade, The Badger Herald , Rockerilla. 在入选当年年 度最佳专辑的部份的还包括Pitchfork, Eye Weekly, Village Voice, NME, PopMatters, Amazon.com, Uncut, Spin, Mojo, LostAtSea, E!, Canadian Critics Poll, Prefix, Washington City Pape, 几乎无一不缺席。 在欧陆方面Popnews(法国)、Zundfunk(德国)、Les Inrockuptibles(法国) Sentire Ascoltare(意大利)、Rockerilla (意大利)、Rock de Lux (西班 牙)、Intro (德国)、Iguana (西班牙)、Blowup (意大利)、Musica (意大利 )、Screenagers (波兰)也入选当年年度十大或是年度唱片，而在南半球澳洲 和纽西兰更是如此，几乎是所有的独立音乐和另类音乐年终榜单上无一缺席 。而因为几乎完全售窟一票难求的澳洲巡回，更让You Are Free成为Matador Records在澳洲有史以来最卖座的一张唱片，在北美更夺下Billboard杂志独 立榜七周亚军和新人榜九周冠军的商业亮眼成绩。 除了商业成绩亮眼外，更由Chemical Brothers的提名，让她入围美国最重要 的独立音乐奖项之一的Shortlist Awards最後的finalist，还差点成为最後 一个和Johnny Cash合作的人，可以说是她目前生涯的高峰，一点都不为过。 THE GREATEST ___________________________________________________________________ 而这次Chan把她自己放逐到了Memphis，找来了Stuart Sikes当制作人，而谁 是Stuart Sikes呢？其实圈内人都知道他原本就是个蛮有名的Mixer和Engin- eer，尤其是在最近一些独立艺人，大敲主流门的代表作品(当然不一定是乐 团代表作，而是成功敲主流门的作品)，都是出自他手录的，像是The White Stripes的『White Blood Cells』、Loretta Lynn的『Van Lear Rose』、M- odest Mouse的『Good News for People Who Love Bad News』或是Slowride 二月将要发行的新唱片『C/S』，但是我比较喜欢的其实是他，近十年前帮 Dave Shouse的乐团Those Bastard Souls，打开独立音乐知名度的第一张唱 片『21st Century Chemical』 (我到现在都还一直有在听)，而还有另外一 张印像比较深刻的是Rocket from the Crypt (唉!我小时後的爱团前阵子解 散了) 的『Group Sounds』！！！ 而更有趣的是在Memphis她找来了和她以前完全不同圈子里的蓝调和灵魂的录 音室的乐手来录这次的新唱片『The Greatest』，找来了Al Green早期全盛 时期的吉他手Teenie Hodges(当然这是大家都在讲的，因为他最有名，也曾 经是超级女伶Ann Peebles的指名首度乐手)，还有曾经是蓝调吉他英雄派 Luther Allison乐团的贝斯手 David Smith，最难得的是Booker T.的鼓手 Steve Potts，The Radio Kings的Rick Steff弹钢琴和Trumpet手Scott Thompson，而其实我最期待的反而是Jim Spake (他曾经是Tav Falco巡回的 专属萨克斯风手，而说到Tav Falco！我看过他的现场表演，喔买尬！屌到翻 天，让我完全不禁怀疑Jon Spencer，根本就是百分之三千和他偷来的，还有 Jim Spake现场的萨克斯风也是，屌到翻天)，而结果就是她一月二十四号要 发行的新唱片『The Greatest』。 其实我还蛮期待她的新唱片的，其实我对别人嘴巴里说的好不好听，什麽进 步或是退步，我其实真的一点兴趣都没有，我只希望我喜欢的艺人能永远做 一张诚实的唱片，我觉得诚实是一件非常重要的事，就像我不久前去看日本 的Maher Shalal Hash Baz虽然几乎是状况百出，但是重点是你几乎找不到如 此诚实的团体了，几乎是去年我看过最令我感动的团体了，Kudo就是完全不 花任何的力气就让你感动至极，或是像Saul Williams一样，我还蛮希望Cat Power的新的一张唱片是一张诚实的唱片，因为其实我觉得虽然『You Are Free』几乎举世爱载，但是其实我觉得好像少了点什麽，我其实真的如此的 想，我其实最喜欢的还是她的『Moon Pix』，非常的真实非常的迷人，而 Pitchfork也给了『The Greatest』的title track近满分的四星半的评价， 其实基於的理由大概也是如此，就是因为她的真，虽然我从来都不太屑 Pitchfork。 WILLIE DEADWILDER ___________________________________________________________________ Chan完全没有停止的整整六年巡回，无预警的突然成名，还有两次巨大的感 情剧变(还有一次分手是在台湾飞机场)，疯狂的酗酒还差点让Chan曾有产生 过无数次自杀的念头，直到现在都还在服抗忧郁药，让所有许多她的友人和 歌迷们(尤其是朋友们，包括两年前来台的JSBX的吉他手Judah)，都不禁为 她真的打从心底担心起来，我一次我记得她在雪梨，她在满满售罄的两千乐 迷前，两个小时只唱了完整的两首歌，台下有人一直大叫『贱女人，还我钱 来』！最後她还是ㄍ一ㄥ了两小时，最後看的台上的人很难过，台下的也很 难过，但是的确的，我想她一定更难过的，在事後还装的不难过，但是我们 都知道其实她是很难过的。 而在这短短一两年多的时间里，Chan来了墨尔本四次(包括一次由Nick Cave 本人的邀请，来当Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds的暖场)，我渐渐的看到了她 真正一步步的走出了伤痛，而其实在她在澳洲最卖座的那次巡回(其实也是她 状况最糟的那一次)，他曾经在短短一两天内售罄她在澳洲境内十八场的演出 ，几乎怎麽加场都是在极短的时间内就sold out，其实只有一场是好到我永 远难忘的(当时是有整个乐团的，那时的吉他手是Matt Sweeney)，我记得当 时她在安可的最後翻唱了一首Otis Redding 的『These Arms Of Mine』，那 般的真实，好像轻轻触碰就会流血般的一样的脆弱且真实，Chan的乐团在台 上弹奏，Chan拿着麦克风跳下舞台，完全用头发盖住脸的阴暗，泪流满面的 跪倒在人群中，我还是觉得那是我当年在看现场表演，最另我难忘的一首歌 吧，而在这几次和她喝了无数次的酒，我还是觉得她是我见过最真的人之一 ，有时常常会觉得有不知道怎麽办的惶恐，只是在当时我觉得Chan的真实是 危险的，好像是自毁式的危险，在几次下来她真正见到一步步的走出了伤痛 ，反而感觉她的真实是疲累的(虽然她越来表演的越好Orz)，体验後的真实， 从很累很累中走出来的真实，那种很诚实的感觉，她在去年发了一张DVD和CD ，DVD说实话我实在无法昧着我的良心说好看，因为实在蛮难看的，而 Matador其实真的蛮厉害的，还可以说的非常非常的艺术，但是说实话其实真 的摆明是骗钱的(要相信我那觉对不是肯德鸡！)，但是重点是那张CD里其实 只有一首歌，很长很长很长的歌共十八分钟十八秒，而背景音乐就是M Ward 弹木吉他，其实整首歌音乐只有一段，然後一直一直重复，而Chan就一直一 直唱、一直一直唱，整首歌光是歌词就有一千两百四十个字，她就一直一直 唱、一直一直唱，唱到最後她唱着说着下面这段 This is a four hour song And it will go on and on A moment in time traveling on even if it is too long I don't care I love to share I love to sing along I know you do too Feel the same way so come along Sing your song It's all that you have to do 我听到这段眼泪几乎从眼眶飙出来，这虽然是一首很长的歌，但并不是一首 像史诗或是感人故事的歌，因为它太平凡了而Chan又真的太真实了，还有那 种直到的中心，几乎是对所有Cat Power疑问的解答，尤其是那段 "And it will go on and on………A moment in time traveling on even if it is too long……I don't care". 对我来说那几乎是我觉得Chan一辈子最好听的 歌，尤其是知道她当时所经历到人生的一个阶段，而再写这首歌，我从来没 有见过如此的事或是人，她就一直一直的反复着，好像永远永远都不会完般 ，对我来说那是她一辈子写的最好的一首歌，而且因为时间和背景，我并不 觉得她将会再有能力，甚至於在有同等的才华，唱出或是做出，她和M Ward 当时做的事，而另外是因为M Ward实在太了解Chan了，一段完全一直重覆的 吉他，却有完全高低起伏完全的情感，那的确是我那一年听过最感动的一首 歌，甚至於是Cat Power有史以来最棒的一首歌，完全就因为这首歌一字一句 的都太真实了。 而在『The Greatest』的确在这张唱片中隐约的真实的在Where Is My Love 和The Greatest中听的到她渐渐走出来的真实体验，也更诚实的面对自己， 而Willie Deadwilder也被收入在里面，变成五分多钟的版本(变的更完美了 ，但是就没有原来那版本的真了Orz)！而这张唱片有一些桥段听起来感觉像 Beachwood Sparks的『Once We Were Trees』，但是唱的调调基本上就南辕 北辙了！ Chan 的唱片公司Matador Records和澳洲Remote Control Records，在Mysp- ace放了Cat
