Brewers 板

当地新闻..没时间翻 欢迎帮翻 感恩!! Some people headed to the aisles get a leg up on traffic. But not before nearly all 44,014 of them in attendance at Miller Park stood and roared as Ben Sheets strolled from the top step of the dugout to his rightful spot on the mound, the place where he had dominated for almost 2? hours before. And 3 minutes later, they stood again and cheered louder as the ace of the Milwaukee Brewers' staff retired San Francisco Giants cleanup hitter Ray Durham on a ground ball for his second career shutout, a 7-0 gem Sunday afternoon that completed the team's first sweep of the season. It was the 14th complete game of his career and his first shutout since May 29 of his rookie season, 2001, at St. Louis. Sheets was an artist for nine innings, carving his way to a 109-pitch, five-hit , eight-strikeout masterpiece. "(I'm a) big-league pitcher; that's what we're supposed to do," Sheets said. "Some days we're supposed to be good." That's modesty. Sheets (1-0) was dominant from the start. He hit 95 mph in the first inning and kept his fastball there all game. But it wasn't just the heater working, as the eighth-year right-hander struck out the side in the first inning - two of them looking - with a filthy-sharp curveball. He dropped it on Dave Roberts to start the game, got Eugenio Velez, who didn't see a fastball all day, on a check swing and dropped it in again on Fred Lewis to end the first. "I watched what he did to the guys in front of me," Lewis said. "He did me the same way. He continued the same process over and over, and we weren't smart enough to catch on." Of his eight strikeouts, Sheets finished seven of them with the hook. The only hitter who struck out on a fastball was Brian Bocock in the second inning, getting 96-mph gas that froze him like a statue. When asked what made his ace so untouchable, Brewers manager Ned Yost didn't hesitate to answer. "Probably a 96-mph fastball on the black and a hard, biting curveball at the knees," he said. "He was about as dominant as he could be for me today. That's Ben Sheets out there at his finest." Sheets has been just that for 15 1/3 innings this season, following up his 6 1/3 scoreless innings on opening day at Wrigley Field. Sheets finished the eighth inning with 100 pitches, but coming off six days of rest and with another six until his next start, there was never any hesitation to send the 29-year-old out to tie the bow. He got Velez to ground out to second baseman Rickie Weeks, Lewis to hit a soft liner to leftfielder Ryan Braun, who had to battle the glare from the window panes, and finally the grounder to second from Durham. As catcher Jason Kendall came out of his crouch and jogged to the mound, Sheets walked toward him and the two gave each other a hug. "(Yost) knew I wanted to go out there and he was comfortable with it," Sheets said. "I'm glad I could finally finish one off and throw a zero up for the whole game. "I like finishing off what I start." On offense, the Brewers methodically tacked on runs, scoring in all but two innings in which they batted. Braun did much of the damage, going 3 for 5 with three runs batted in and a home run into the second deck in left field. Braun just missed a second home run to center on a ball that hit off the base of the fence for an RBI double, scoring Prince Fielder in the seventh. It is hard for Yost to be impressed any more with Braun, but if there was ever a swing that made it happen, it came on the home run. "The pitch before it they called a strike and I thought it was an un-hittable pitch," Yost said. "I thought, 'That's all right, that's not your pitch. I'm glad you took it.' Then the next pitch was in the exact same spot and he smoked it." Centerfielder Gabe Kapler was 2 for 4 with a home run and drove in two runs. But the story of the day was Sheets leading the way to a sweep in front of a sellout crowd that set the franchise record for attendance in the first three home games of the season. And so far, the team has been exactly as advertised. "That was the idea, man," Yost said. "You want to have a good time?Come watch good, aggressive, hard-played baseball. "They saw it this weekend." ------------------------ 附注: GIANT KILLER : Ben Sheets Pitcher Ben Sheets has been masterful the last four times he has faced the San Francisco Giants.
