It seemed like once the Boston Red Sox signed Mike Cameron and John Lackey
,they had said goodbye to outfielder Jason Bay and GM Theo Epstein had
intimated just that during a press conference.
But now comes word through the WEEI that the Red Sox are considering
making an offer to Bay that would be higher than its original four-year,
$60 million one.
The New York Mets have an offer on the table to Bay worth about $65
million for four years.
The team hasn't heard from Bay's reps for a few days,according to the
New York Daily News.
The San Francisco Giants and Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim are also
supposedly interested in bringing on Bay.
A Red Sox offer to Bay would put the team firmly over its budget and the
luxury-tax line but a trade would then likely take place to ditch some
of the team's payroll,such as the recently signed Mike Cameron.
