It’s unclear whether the Braves are seriously entertaining offers on the player once expected to become the next face of the franchise, but they would presumably have to get an outfielder in return, or have another deal lined up to get a replacement for Francoeur, 25. He was hitting .259 with three homers, 21 RBIs and a meager .281 on-base percentage before Wednesday night’s game at San Francisco. Yahoo’s Gordon Edes reported that the Red Sox are looking at potential outfielders to provide depth behind their often-injured right fielder, J.D. Drew, a former Brave. Drew’s backup, Rocco Baldelli, has several ongoing medical issues and can’t be relied upon. Francoeur, after an encouraging spring and first few weeks of the season, had hit just .230 with a .247 on-base base percentage, three extra-base hits (all doubles) and five RBI in his past 23 games. The former Sports Illustrated cover boy’s struggles began as far back as the 2007 season. In 210 games since Sept. 19, 2007, Francoeur had a .244 average with 16 home runs, 96 RBIs, a .292 OBP and a .367 slugging percentage. --
