ATLANTA -- Atlanta Braves pitcher John Smoltz will have season-ending
shoulder surgery, but he hopes to return in 2009.
Smoltz 将接受使他本季报销的手术，但他希望 09 年会重新回来。
"I'm having surgery with the hopes of pitching beyond this year," Smoltz told
790 The Zone. "We're only kidding ourselves if we try to mess around any
longer."
Smoltz 说：「我要动手术，希望明年能回来。如果这种状况继续拖下去只是自欺欺
人而已」
Manager Bobby Cox said the pitcher was "pretty sore" the following day, and
Smoltz apparently decided that it was futile to continue his comeback even
though he's long indicated another surgery would probably end his career.
He's already had four operations on his right elbow, including Tommy John
surgery that kept him out for all of 2000.
Cox 说 Smoltz 投完复出战之後他的手臂「相当酸痛」，Smoltz 也说显然继续投下
去没什麽用－－他也暗示了他可能会动个手术，即使这可能让他提前结束职业生涯。
他的右手肘过去也曾经动过手术，包括那个让他失去整个 2000 年球季的 Tommy John。
"I've always said that if it gets to that point, I don't know the value of
coming back," Smoltz said Monday. "At the same time ... the right choice will
be made. It won't be made emotionally."
