"It's frustrating," LaRoche said, "but it's not out of the question that I could be back in there tomorrow. In the past, it's been quick to get back to ... not where it's perfect, but to where I can get back in there and play a game." LaRoche, who is hitting .354 with nine homers since the All-Star break, sustained the injury while making an awkward slide into second base with a fifth-inning double. He was replaced by Scott Thorman at first base to begin the sixth inning. "I was going straight in, and I saw that I was going to be out," he said. "So I tried to curve around the bag and do a little popup." The successful slide caused discomfort in the upper portion of the hamstring. LaRoche says that he's felt similar pain approximately three times since tweaking that muscle last year. The initial injury didn't force him to spend time on the disabled list. "It's nothing I haven't had before," he said. "It's always been a day or two, and then it's back to where I can play." Manager Bobby Cox seemed a little more concerned about the injury, which will almost definitely keep LaRoche out of the lineup for Thursday afternoon's series finale against the Pirates. But the club's head trainer, Jeff Porter, doesn't believe the first baseman will miss significant time. "We'll see how he is when he gets here tomorrow," Porter said.
