The 24-year-old K-Pop Queen will be starring opposite Dancing with the Stars champ (and rumored Cheryl Cole lover) Derek Hough in the interracial love story COBU 3D, which is due out early 2012. The movie — which was written by the man behind Step Up and Save the Last Dance — will begin filming this Spring. According to Koreaboo, BoA and Hough will play two dancers who belong to rival dance clubs in underground New York. They then fall in love, Romeo + Juliet style, leaving their budding romance to become threatened by the war between their family’s warring clubs. Besides the forbidden love story, COBU 3D will be packed full of dance battles spanning different styles like tap dancing, hip-hop, swing and more. The movie is being produced by Jumanji producer Robert Colt, with international distribution being handled by Lionsgate. Interestingly enough, the largest entertainment company in South Korea CJ Entertainment, as well as BoA’s label S.M. Entertainment, will be co-producing the film, and have already worked out distribution deals for Korea, China, and Japan. This East-meets-West partnership is yet another example of the growing relationship between the US and Asia, with America now seeing the lucrative benefits of fully tapping into the Asian market.
