Jax has been excellent since a rough return from the injured list on Sept. 2 after a bout of right elbow discomfort, permitting only two runs on 10 hits and four walks while striking out 19 in 20 innings over his last four regular-season starts and his Game 3 relief outing at Yankee Stadium. Jax is presumably prepared for Cleveland’s inclement weather, having pitched for Minnesota for most of his career, and he’s put up impressive numbers (including a 2.19 ERA, 0.89 WHIP and 20 strikeouts) in 13 relief appearances at Progressive Field. Guardians: Gavin Williams, RHP Key Stats: 1.54 ERA, 24 strikeouts in 11 2/3 innings in ALDS The Guardians officially named Williams their Game 3 starter on Wednesday afternoon, setting the 27-year-old up for a start on normal rest following his heroic performance in the ALDS, when he made two starts and an emergency relief appearance against the White Sox. After he recorded the final three outs of Game 4, Williams came back on one day’s rest in Game 5 and tied a franchise postseason record in strikeouts (12) to help Cleveland beat Chicago, 2-0, to advance. Williams starting Game 3 also positions him to start a potential Game 7 of this series on Tuesday, on normal rest. Brewers: TBD Key stat: Milwaukee’s staff has a 1.74 ERA this postseason, the lowest mark of all 12 entrants “Pitching tomorrow?” a reporter asked Milwaukee manager Pat Murphy after the Brewers’ win in Game 3. They were hoping for a name. “Yeah,” responded instead, “there will be pitching.” The Brewers didn’t immediately name a starter, but they have plenty of fresh options. Left-handers Kyle Harrison and Shane Drohan and right-hander Chad Patrick have been on the roster for both the NLDS and NLCS, but have yet to pitch in any of the Brewers’ first seven games. Midseason pickup Dustin May, the former Dodger who won a World Series ring with L.A. in 2020, pitched an inning in NLCS Game 2 on what would have been a bullpen day had he been lined up to start Thursday. They are all options to start what will amount to a bullpen game for the Brewers. Dodgers: RHP Tyler Glasnow Key stat: 3.60 ERA in three career elimination games 3.60 The Dodgers' 7-0 postseason record when Glasnow pitches is more of a quirk than anything else, but the right-hander has gotten the results to back it up. In four starts and three relief appearances, Glasnow has recorded a 1.73 ERA (five earned runs in 26 innings). Glasnow had command issues when he last pitched against the Braves in NLDS Game 4 -- issuing five walks -- but limited the damage to one run in 4 2/3 innings. #GuardsBall | #StandGuard https://twitterviewer.net/CleGuardians/status/2110401331433443702 Rays-Guardians ALCS Game 3 FAQ (1 ET, TBS/HBO Max) https://reurl.cc/mzbQ9G Brewers-Dodgers NLCS Game 4 FAQ (8 ET, FS1/FOX One) https://reurl.cc/GgqYop --
