In need of a major spark to life their postseason hopes, the Angels got the
ultimate reinforcement on Tuesday when three-time AL MVP Mike Trout was
activated off the injured list before the club's opener against Cincinnati.
Trout fractured his left hamate bone on a swing on July 3 and underwent
surgery to remove the bone two days later. The Angels have struggled in his
absence, going 16-22 to enter Tuesday nine games back in the AL Wild Card
chase.
Trout was in the midst of his 11th All-Star season when he got hurt, batting
.263 with an .862 OPS, 18 homers and 44 RBIs in 81 games.
