Bob Myers, Collins' agent, told The Oregonian Monday night that his client was "hoping to sign a 10-day contract in the near future" with the Blazers. Collins, in his 10th NBA season, played 23 games with the Los Angeles Clippers this season before the team waived him in January. Before signing Collins, the Blazers had just one center (Marcus Camby) on their roster, because of the NBA trade deadline deal that sent Joel Przybilla, Sean Marks, Dante Cunningham and two future draft picks to the Charlotte Bobcats for Gerald Wallace. The 6-foot-11 Collins also will add playoff experience, having played in the postseason five different seasons with the Utah Jazz and Phoenix Suns. Last season, he started for the Suns at center when they defeated the Blazers in the first round of the Western Conference playoffs. Collins, who will wear jersey No. 31, tried to make the Blazers' roster as a training camp invite last season. But Patty Mills beat him out for the 15th and final roster spot and Collins eventually landed with the Suns. Collins, who played his first eight seasons with the Utah Jazz, has averaged 3.9 points and 2.9 rebounds in 537 career games, including 216 starts.
