As for the three rookies, the Blazers spent the bulk of Monday's news
conference praising their upside and ability. The Blazers believe two of them
-- No. 16 pick Babbitt and No. 22 selection Elliot Williams -- can contribute
immediately.
Chad Buchanan, the Blazers' director of college scouting, said Babbitt was
the best shooter in the 2010 draft class and predicted that he would provide
instant offense off the bench, much the way Travis Outlaw once did for the
Blazers. As a senior at Nevada, Babbitt shot 50 percent from the field, 42
percent from three-point range and 92 percent from the free-throw line.
"If you add those up and you get over 160, that's a hell of a shooter,"
Buchanan said, referring to the three shooting percentages. "And he was over
180, which is off the charts. That's like a Mark Price or Kyle Korver. I
think he's going to be that kind of an NBA shooter ... and it's hard to find
that. Especially from a guy that played power forward."
Coach Nate McMillan said he envisions playing Babbitt at both small and power
forward. But even though the Blazers continue to tout Babbitt's offense (he
averaged 21.9 points per game last season, which ranked ninth nationally in
the NCAA) the 6-foot-7 forward is eager to show that he has plenty more to
offer.
"I'm known for being a good shooter and I think I'll definitely do that, but
I think I can do a lot of things to help the team," Babbitt said. "Just the
little things. Getting into lane, making the extra pass. I think I'm a better
defender than I get credit for. I can rebound. I've worked hard all my life
to not be a one-dimensional player. I don't think they'd want me here if I
was just going to sit out there and spot up and shoot."
Williams won't have the problem of having to prove he's not a one-dimensional
player -- in fact, he won't be proving anything any time soon. The 6-5 guard
from Memphis will not play on the Blazers' summer league team because of a
right knee injury he suffered in May during his first predraft workout at San
Antonio.
Williams, who said he was 95 percent healed, was examined by Blazers' team
doctors before the draft and they do not believe the injury to carry any
long-term risk. He lobbied to play next month at the Last Vegas Summer
League, but the Blazers shot him down as a precaution. Williams is expected
to return for training camp and the Blazers say he will display versatility,
"freaky" athleticism and stout defense while playing a "combo guard."
Johnson, drafted by the Blazers in the second round with the No. 34 overall
pick, drew comparisons to Greg Anthony and praise for his toughness and
defensive ability. But as a second-round pick he does not have a roster spot
guarantee and must use summer league as an avenue to earn a contract next
season with the Blazers.
Notes: The Blazers submitted a qualifying contract offer to point guard Patty
Mills and they expect him to play on their summer league team.

没时间翻 大意是说
我们的球探Chad Buchanan认为Babbit和Williams都可以马上对球队有帮助
Babbit
