While 2008-09 was LaMarcus Aldridge's best statistical year, 2009-10 was not
far off. In fact, Aldridge posted nearly identical numbers in just about every
major statistical category.
The Trail Blazers leaned heavily on Aldridge -- and Andre Miller -- all season
long thanks to over 300 games missed due to injury. Aldridge ranked second on
the team in scoring and third in rebounding.
With Brandon Roy missing 17 games in the regular season, Aldridge led Portland
in scoring 22 times, scoring 20 or better in 23 games. And with Joel Przybilla
and Greg Oden missing a combined 113 games, he led the Blazers in rebounding a
team-best 28 times, including double-digit rebounds on 24 occasions.
Aldridge led the team with a career-high 24 double-doubles this season and rank
ed in the Top 20 in the NBA in minutes played (15th, 2,922), minutes per game
(16th, 37.5), field goals made (19th, 579) and field goals attempted (20th,
1,169).
Continuing with his trend of post All-Star break surges, Aldridge averaged 21.5
points over the last 25 games. He averaged a team-best 19.7 points in the last
44 games.
In six postseason games against the Rockets in 2009, Aldridge averaged 19.5
points (on 49 percent shooting), 7.5 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 0.5 steals, and
1.7 blocks in 39.5 minutes per game. In six postseason games against the Suns
in 2010, Aldridge averaged 19.0 points (43 percent shooting), 6.0 rebounds, 2.2
assists, 1.2 steals and 1.8 blocks in 38.2 minutes per game.
Aldridge made and attempted fewer field goals in this year's playoffs, but
upped both his free throws attempted and made.
No matter the season for Aldridge, there's always room for improvement for the
fourth-year power forward. And that's just what Blazers coach Nate McMillan
said he'd like to see.
"The challenge is not only for him to continue to work and get better on the of
fensive end of the floor," McMillan said after the season ended. "But I think
defensively he can improve ... rebounding, blocking shots. He has just a wide
open window of how much he can improve. I think there's so much LaMarcus can do
on both ends of the floor."
You decide. Is LaMarcus Aldridge a cornerstone of the franchise? Can he become
the low-post threat the Blazers need? Cast your vote and comment below on why
Aldridge should stay or go.
Last year's vote: 96% stay.
