First fallout from Philly disaster: Sergio out; Green in
Posted by Jason Quick November 17, 2007 15:21PM
Coach Nate McMillan said he will use rookie Taurean Green as the point guard
for the second unit in tonight's game in Washington, a move that results in a
demotion for Sergio Rodriguez.
Rodriguez was shaky, at best, during Friday's monumental meltdown in
Philadelphia, committing two hideous turnovers (dribbling the ball off his
leg and out of bounds and being stripped at his own free throw line for a key
fourth-quarter dunk) which were among several other miscues.
McMillan is careful not to publicly criticize Rodriguez, and again chose to
reveal his reasons for the benching during an "off-the-record" conversation.
I will respect McMillan's wishes and detail all the shortcomings, but I will
also say it boiled down to this: Sergio had his chances and only once - in
the home win against Detroit - did he perform.
For the season, Rodriguez has played in eight of the nine games, averaging
10.1 minutes and 2.9 points while making 10-of-29 shots (34.5 percent). He
has 12 assists and 10 turnovers.
Green, meanwhile, has been reporting to the arena every game at 3:45 - a good
hour and 15 minutes before other players - to workout with assistant coach
Bill Bayno. McMillan felt the team cracked during the second half in
Philadelphia, and was unable to handle pressure. Green, McMillan points out,
has played in more big games at Flordia than anyone else on the team.
He said Green will play alongside Jarrett Jack with the second unit, with the
hope of giving Brandon Roy a five-to-10 minute breather.

今天McMillan不用Sergio在second unit的轮值里,
要改用之前比较少上场的Taurean Green,
原因可能和Sergio昨天对76人表现不佳有关。
(包含两个要命的失误)
