One of the soon to be members of the 2006 NBA rookie class is former University of Washington guard, Brandon Roy. Looked at my many scouts as the most complete guard in the draft, Brandon is a projected top 10 pick. Whether he goes #1 or #10, it’s really no matter to Brandon as he’s just happy to have the opportunity to play in the NBA. Thanks to quality minutes, Brandon finished with an average of 12.8 points per game and Atlanta won 10 more games. With deep rosters, both Portland and Chicago were hard rosters for Brandon to crack, and thus he had the least impact. 7.4 PPG with Portland as a rookie is nothing to sneeze at, but it’s not the ideal situation for the young guard. As for Chicago 梊 forget about it. It feels even better for me because I know that I put in a lot of hard work to get to this point, and I’m only days away from the NBA. It’s the most incredible feeling. Brandon Roy: It was the best decision I made in my life. Everything turned out so much better by staying at Washington. I had my best season ever as a senior, I had a chance to lead my team, be a vocal leader and make plays down the stretch 梊 I think staying was the main reason for that. Some things happened in my life where I had to stay 4 years. If I had rushed things, I don’t believe things would have worked out as well. Still, some guys are ready in their second or third year of college. You just have to be patient enough to believe in yourself and your game. Was there a particular point in your college career, whether it was a game, string of games, that pushed you over the top? It seems like your game went to another level last season. I had some games my junior year that were good, but I really think people started to recognize me during my senior season. The one game against Arizona (at Washington), I had 35 points and I had just come off a game with 35 points as well 梊 so back-to-back 35 point games helped to answer a lot of questions about me as a player. I was able to lead my team, make tough shots in clutch situations, and that’s where I feel others started to recognize me as one of the top players in the country. Has the ability to post up smaller guards, decent shot from the outside, and strong defender. His versatility will give opponents a lot to handle. Some people say that I have a laid-back Tracy McGrady style of play, but it's tough to say. That's probably the toughest question I've been asked because I don't play just like one guy. When you really look at what he did and how he dominated basketball, honestly, I think it’ll be a while before there is another player like Jordan. I'm more excited to have the opportunity to take care of my family and things like that. I'm happier thinking about that stuff than what I can do for myself. We lived in a 3 bedroom townhouse for a while, and with all the brothers and sisters, I'm really looking forward to getting them a new house. Brandon Roy: Yeah, yeah, I've been an NBA Live guy since they started putting the games out. Some of my friends and I have arguments over what is the best NBA game out there, but I love NBA Live. Are you playing the Xbox 360, more of a PlayStation fan, what? Brandon Roy: Yeah, I got the 360. My brother plays the PS2 and the 360, but I like to play one system, because I don’t want to get used to different controllers. So, I'm definitely playing the Xbox 360 right now. Right now, I probably couldn't stop him. I'd need so me help. His ability to create contact and still finish the play…he is extremely hard to guard.
