NT Police said four tourists, two men and two women, were in the car at about 12:40pm at the time of the accident. One of the men was thrown from the vehicle and died at the scene. One woman was transported by CareFlight staff in a critical condition with abdominal and chest injuries. The surviving man had head injuries, and a second woman had a badly injured hand and wrist. The man and a woman remain in a serious condition, while the passenger who sustained the hand injuries is stable. CareFlight spokesman Mark Lever said all three survivors of the crash were conscious when paramedics reached them, but the man with head injuries had no memory of the crash. Mr Lever said the CareFlight helicopter in Darwin was out for maintenance and two planes had to be sent to Jabiru to meet the injured group. Duty Superintendent Robert Burgoyne said officers remained at the scene and were continuing to investigate the crash. No other vehicles were involved in the incident. One lane of the Kakadu Highway is expected to stay closed until noon, about 30 kilometres west of Jabiru where the crash happened.
