Academic Preparation Program (APP) The APP runs for three days prior to Orientation Week (in each semester) and is designed to assist new international students who have not previously undertaken study at The University of Queensland. Students are offered core and optional sessions on topics such as writing, studying, library skills, research matters, examinations, note-taking, time management, effective reading, correct referencing, science writing and problem solving. Academic Communication Skills (ACS) ACS teaches specialised English communication and academic skills. The program is offered at no additional cost and runs for three weeks before the starting date of Orientation Week. ACS is designed for students whose first language is not English, but who have already met UQ's English language entry requirements. ACS will help you to: ‧ Understand and take notes in academic lectures ‧ Prepare and deliver academic presentations ‧ Write academic essays and research reports ‧ Efficiently read academic texts ‧ Express ideas clearly and comprehensively ‧ Actively contribute to academic discussion ACS will also help you to adjust to life and study in Australia.
