The Diamondbacks acquired him 18 months later with Zack Godley for Miguel Montero. Mejia stands 6-foot-7 and was regarded as a promising projection type at the time, but has not developed as hoped. His fastball remains 90-92 mph, he lacks any usable secondaries and has exceedingly poor control. He was one of the more interesting prospects on the international market that year, earning an $850,000 bonus. After a promising 2014 debut in rookie ball (2.45, 45/17 K/BB in 40 innings) he was traded to Arizona in the December 2014 Miguel Montero deal. It has been downhill from there, as Mejia never put things together in the Dbacks system. 2017 has been typical: he posted a 6.08 ERA in 24 innings in Low-A with a 27/22 K/BB, which got him demoted to the Northwest League on July 16th. He’s walked three in five innings there, also fanning eight. Mejia is 6-7, 200 pounds, born August 2nd, 1994. He can hit 93 MPH but his breaking ball is below average and his control is terrible. He’s a definite project at this point, a raw arm. A's SEA 1B Yonder Alonso <--> OF Boog Powell Boog Powell, of Age: 24 Powell is in the middle of his best pro season in his third season in Triple-A, although his success at Triple-A did not carry over in his first promotion to the big leagues, where he drew walks but otherwise struggled offensively. Powell’s best assets are his speed and defense. Most scouts see him as a future fourth outfielder who has enough defensive ability in center field to contribute to a big league roster. He has solid contact skills, albeit with little power. He has enough feel for the strike zone to produce solid on-base percentages. His above-average speed plays much better in the field than on the basepaths, as he’s never figured out how to be a successful basestealer. Powell has been suspended twice by MLB. The first time was a 50-game suspension after testing positive for an amphetamine. He was suspended for 80 games last year because he tested positive for an anabolic steroid. --
