Athletics fired bench coach Chris Speier.
Speier got sloppy at the end of the season, presenting incorrect
hitter-vs.-pitcher data in a key game against the Angels on Sept. 5 and
copying down the wrong lineup in a game against the Rangers.
The A's may pursue
Bob Melvin to replace him if Melvin fails to land a
managerial job elsewhere
