The Rockies acquired right-hander Felipe Paulino from the Astros on Thursday
in exchange for infielder Clint Barmes.
Paulino, 27, just completed his third Major League season, going 1-9 with a
5.11 ERA in 19 appearances, 14 of them starts. Paulino began the season in
the starting rotation, but he was shifted to the bullpen after he missed
nearly three months with shoulder tendinitis. His 2010 record stood at 1-8
with a 4.40 ERA prior to the injury. Paulino has a career record of 6-21 with
a 5.83 ERA in 47 appearances, 34 starts. A native of the Dominican Republic,
Paulino was signed by the Astros in 2001 as an undrafted free agent.
Barmes spent 11 seasons in the Rockies organization, which drafted him out of
Indiana State University. He hit .235 during the 2010 season, while spending
most of his time at second base. His career batting average stood at .254 at
the close of the 2010 season.
