HOUSTON - The Houston Astros on Wednesday signed reliever Dave Borkowski to a one-year contract. The contract is for $575,000 plus incentives. Borkowski, 29, was 3-2 with a 4.69 ERA in a career-high 40 appearances for the Astros this past season. The righthander allowed 37 earned runs in 71 innings. Compiling his most innings since throwing 76 2/3 with Detroit in 1999, Borkowski was a workhorse for Houston. He pitched at least two innings in 21 appearances and was used for three innings seven times. Borkowski is 8-15 with a 5.84 ERA in five seasons with Detroit, Baltimore and Houston.
