Anyway, as far as if he's laughing at the Astros, I don't know. He hit .200 throughout the postseason and one-fifth of his at-bats ended with strikeouts. He was the same Wilson he was in Houston. The difference is that in St. Louis, he was able to be himself -- a marginal hitter who can do a few things here and there but is not asked to be "The Man." He was in a lineup with good hitters and was not expected to carry the team. In Houston, he was thrust right into the spotlight as the guy who was going to get the Astros over the offensive hump. He knows the tendencies of every hitter in both leagues, and he is a very calming, stable influence on all pitchers, young and old. He is entering the last year of his contract and will probably retire. I still think that if the Astros add a couple of very solid hitters to the middle of the order, we won't be paying a bit of attention to Everett or Ausmus, because we won't care.
