She was clear, however, that she would only play singles only if she could get back into the top-50 of the women's rankings or better. "I have been top-100 for a long time, I came very close to breaking into the top-50 again. So, I didn't just want to play for the sake of playing because I've already enjoyed a very high ranking," said Sania, who was once ranked as high as No. 27 in the world. However, after pushing herself on the practice court and the gym, giving it a final go, Sania felt her body, which has been operated upon on both knees and her right wrist, wouldn't hold-up. Sania, who has won two Grand Slam mixed doubles titles, the Australian Open (2009) and French Open (2012), both with Mahesh Bhupathi, said, "I've played singles and doubles for over a decade at the highest level. I have managed to bounce back from serious injuries. But after three surgeries my body is just not up to playing singles as well as doubles any more. I've tried whatever I could and I feel it's time to move on and focus completely on doubles." --
