The spectre of a takeover at Arsenal has been looming for well over a year and Russian billionaire Alisher Usmanov overtook Fiszman as the club’s leading shareholder in February when talking his stake in the club to 24.2 percent. Wenger has memorably described Chelsea’s policy of plunging the club into debt and relying on the personal funds of Roman Abramovich as ‘financial doping’, and Fiszman appears ready to resist any attempts from Usmanov to tread a similar path.
