While Mourinho, who worked as a TV pundit during the Africa Cup of Nations, is currently available, Arsenal hierarchy are likely to give the latest reports short shrift. It is reported in Catalan daily El Mundo Deportivo that Wenger is seen as the preferred choice of the Barcelona board whose attractive style of play is thought to have won him the vote ahead of Portuguese Mourinho. Wenger's relationship with Barca striker Thierry Henry is another factor in the club's decision to turn their attentions to the 58-year-old, while it would go a long way to increasing their hopes of signing Cesc Fabregas. Barcelona have continued to sound their interest in re-signing the midfielder who started his career as a trainee at the Nou Camp before leaving for Arsenal in 2003. Whether the Spanish giants launch a move to lure Wenger away from the Premier League table toppers much depends on whether the club decide to severe their ties with Rijkaard.
