Gallas' former club Chelsea have accused the defender of threatening to score an own goal because he was so desperate to seal a move away from Stamford Bridge. However, Vieira, paying tribute to Gallas' work ethic, doubts whether the claims are true. "I have been surprised by the Chelsea statements about William Gallas," he commented. "William played for the club for five years, and he has always given his best. He has been very good, won trophies. "It is difficult to understand those kinds of things." France take on Italy on Wednesday in a repeat of the World Cup final, and Vieira admits that the pain from Les Bleus' loss still burns deep. Vieira, who only played for 55 minutes in Berlin, is determined for France to exact revenge in their second Euro 2008 qualifier. "The disappointment is still present," he said. "On a personal level, that final was catastrophic, because we lost, and because I only played one hour. "Maybe it was even more bitter for me than the other French players. There is nothing more frustrating and disappointing. "I have still not cleared my mind from that final.
