Gallas's move to The Emirates Stadium in part-exchange for Ashley Cole's switch to Chelsea on transfer deadline day resolved two of the summer's longest running sagas. France international Gallas consistently stated his determination to leave the Premiership champions, with the chance to join Arsenal an opportunity that was too good to refuse. "I want to experience new sensations in a brand new stadium, cheered on by the best set of fans in England," Gallas told his personal website. "I needed a fresh challenge, to break out of my routine and set myself new horizons. "I am happy and proud to have joined Arsenal. "I had five marvellous seasons with Chelsea, but I had been dreaming of a new footballing challenge - and Arsenal's offer was one I could not refuse." Gallas's insistence on looking to the future has been mirrored by Gunners chairman Peter Hill-Wood, who now hopes his side can bury the hatchet with London rivals Chelsea. Cole's switch to The Blues, in particular, is the culmination of protracted negotiations which saw claims and counter-claims drive a wedge between the clubs. "I think you can have these negotiations which can be arguments as well," Hill-Wood told the Daily Star. "You have got to put that behind you and get on with it. "I certainly have no ill-feeling toward Chelsea and I hope they have no ill-feeling toward us.
