这首歌的诠释我参考下列网站讨论 http://www.songmeanings.net/lyric.php?lid=3530822107858657643 因为光看歌词我只能有片段片面的理解 所以决定不逐字逐句翻 个人觉得整张专辑最难翻译的是这首"Teddy Picker" 和下一首"D is for Dangerous"还有後半段的"If You were There, Beware" 但是我还是想要每首歌都写点什麽东西 希望赶快熬过第 2, 3 首接下来就比较好写了orz 关於歌名以及歌曲大意诠释 原本以为 "teddy picker" 就像 "mardy bum" 一样 只要是英国人都知道是怎麽一回事的俚俗语 但结果看讨论区国外的歌迷也只能臆测旁敲侧击 大致上的说法有 2 种 1) "teddy picker" 是类似「抓娃娃机」的娱乐 随机从一大堆相似的东西挑选自己中意的来夹 2) "teddy picker" 是需要专注力类似「心脏病」的押牌选择游戏 你要留意抓到最好的才能成为最後的赢家 不过从以上的歌名理解延伸出来的寓意诠释却殊途同归 不少歌迷把这首歌连结到小猴子对音乐/媒体生态的嘲讽 -------------------------------------------------------------- 每年都有的 "media hype" 或者上镜头出名的人，不也很像被抓的娃娃 雀屏中选的乐团/歌手不见得是所谓最优秀的，红的人也并非真的那麽有料 可能只是上头觉得「好做」「和潮流流行符合」的便大肆吹捧曝光 A tangle on the television and the magazine D'you reckon that they do it for a joke? That says "we are defenders Of any poser or professional pretender around" (上面引号里的话感觉很讽刺，明明那些 "they" 媒体的操弄者 就是最厉害的 "poser" 和 "professional pretender" 专业煞有其事装模作样的高手!) ---------------------------------------------------------------- 而相反来说，生态越是如此，怀抱追星/成名梦的人可能也越多 大家想紧紧抓住属於自己出名的机会 尽管到头来可能发现，事情不仅不如自己想像的那麽单纯美好，还成为被利用压榨的对象 Plenty of desperation to be seen Staring at the television screen She saw it and she grabbed it and it wasn't what it seemed The kids all dream of making it, whatever that means ----------------------------------------------------------------- 所以到了曲末就是最大快人心 AM 式的不屑和吐槽 (感觉和上一张的"Perhaps Vampires Is A Bit Strong"声气相通) Lets have a game on the Teddy Picker Not quick enough can I have it quicker? Already thick and you're getting thicker Presuming that all things are equal Who'd want to be men of the people when there's people like you 赌气般的说要越玩越快，越玩越大 彷佛在嘲讽汰换速度越来越快的演艺/媒体圈，胃口被越养越大的追星族和观众 最後两句真的大大出了口闷气的感觉 如果成为「men of the people」人中之龙，众所瞩目的焦点 意味着要被你们这些自以为是的操弄者给玩弄於股掌之间 那我们宁愿不要!!!!!!!!!!!! 卡拉OK心得 这首歌比 "Brianstorm" 难唱多了，简直在考验英语咬字连字绕口令的速度orz 不过同样的，我很喜欢反映在实际唱腔和曲调风格的那种 诡异、不协调(很容易走音)和赶拍的感觉 呼应歌词的那种被(半)强迫洗脑、扭曲的价值观 会唱到很激动的地方像是 They've sped up to the point where they provoke you to tell the fucking punch-line before you have told the joke, 这句感觉好贱，自己被操弄，口是心非，弄巧成拙的无力 “I'm sorry, sunshine, it doesn't exist, It wasn't in the top 100 list“ 被利用完了才把你的梦想敲碎... She saw it and she grabbed it and it wasn't what it seemed 很喜欢这句咬字的节奏感!虽然有那麽多"it"却更加点出不知所以的莫名和盲目 Do you reckon that they make them take an oath that says that we are defenders of any poser or professional pretender around 特爱 "defenders" 的停顿还有 "professional" 停顿 "pretender around" 因为感觉很故作姿态还用一些冠冕堂皇的字:P When did your list replace the twist and turn like a fist, replaced a kiss, Don’t concern us with your bollocks, I don’t want your prayer, save it for the morning after 我真的觉得 Al 的「头韵」和「尾韵」用得很棒，每每造成特出的节奏感 "list" "twist" "fist" "kiss" 然後他用了个我最爱的英式用语之一 "bollocks"(「狗屁」「胡扯」「废话」!) Presuming that all things are equal Who'd want to be men of the people when there's people like you 超爱模仿 Al 这两句的语气唱腔 那种不屑和回击的 "punchline" 点睛之笔，有种命中要害的力道 -------------------------------------------------------------------- Cheers!
