Dear Chung,
Although we regret that the admissions committee was unable to accept your
application for the M.ARCH program for fall 13, we would like to suggest an
option that we think might interest you. We sincerely hope you will consider
Pratt’s Facilities Management program.
With the administration's emphasis on the "greening" of America, facility
managers are going to be very important players in the Real Estate industry.
They will be responsible for allocations of funds, and most cities will need
people who can upgrade and maintain systems and buildings already in place.
Facility managers will be the implementers of the sustainability theme,
keeping our buildings running efficiently.
Facilities Management emerged over the last decade as a new area of expertise
as communities, corporations and institutions systematically plan for growth
and change. Despite the current downturn in many professions, the need for
facilities managers continues.
Pratt's graduate program in Facilities Management
Prepares individuals to assume executive responsibilities in the management
of facilities and equipment as assets, to assure a quality environment and
cost-effective investment.
The facilities manager assumes a distinct set of responsibilities including
strategic planning, financial forecasting and budgeting, real estate
acquisition and disposal, architectural/engineering planning and design,
construction management, maintenance and operations management, and the
integration of new technologies into existing and planned facilities.
Facilities Management students may take electives in construction management
and also in Pratt's other programs in the Graduate Center for Planning and
the Environment, including Environmental Systems Management (soon to be
renamed Environmental Policy and Sustainability), City and Regional Planning
or Historic Preservation.
The FM program is a recognized provider by the IFMA Foundation. The IFMA
Foundation has developed standards to recognize quality facility management
first-professional degree programs at colleges and universities. The
recognized program initiative was designed to recognize and encourage the
strengthening of current, valid facility management education degrees and to
assist in the development of new facility management degree programs.

If you would like to be considered for this program or have questions, please
contact our Director of Graduate Admissions, xxxxxxxx, at xxxxxxxxxx or
by calling xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.
