标题[情报] BOMBERS CONSIDER DEAL FOR HILLENBRAND

June 18, 2007 -- The Yankees have talked to the Angels about
Shea Hillenbrand, a right-handed hitting first baseman they
were interested in this past offseason when he was a free
agent.
Hillenbrand's playing time with the Angels has been reduced
because of Casey Kotchman's emergence at the plate (.333,
eight HRs, 35 RBIs). Even though Kotchman suffered a
concussion Saturday, the Angels are still willing to move
the 31-year-old Hillenbrand, batting .246 with three homers
and 18 RBIs.
Is Hillenbrand an upgrade over the combination of Miguel
Cairo and Josh Phelps? That's the question facing the
Yankees, who eventually will get Doug Mientkiewicz back from
wrist surgery.
Hillenbrand signed a one-year deal worth $6.5 million last
December with a club option for $6.5 million in 2008 that
has a $500,000 buyout. The option becomes guaranteed if
Hillenbrand reaches 600 plate appearances this year but that
won't come into play because he only has 175 at-bats so far.
