ANAHEIM -- After spending more than a month tending to and strengthening a
torn tendon in his right hip flexor, Angels outfielder Garret Anderson
returned to the lineup in the finale of a four-game series with Baltimore on
Sunday. The veteran made his first start in left field since April 27,
batting behind center fielder Gary Matthews Jr. to occupy the No. 5 spot.
安大叔不在的时候战绩很好。
Anderson, who played three rehab games at Class A Rancho Cucamonga, was
activated from the 15-day disabled list and took the roster spot of pitcher
Joe Saunders. Rookie outfielder Reggie Willits, occupying left field since
Anderson's departure, moved to right on Sunday. Regular right fielder
Vladimir Guerrero was the designated hitter.
可怜的桑同学。
Although Angels manager Mike Scioscia said that Anderson is at full strength
and "running very well," he plans to "ease him into the lineup" as a
precautionary measure before playing him regularly.
睁眼说瞎话。
"He's ready to play baseball," Scioscia said. "We had some scenarios we were
looking at as far as where Garret was and his game. We were going to let him
play and his play would tell us all if he was ready or not. ... I think that
there are going to be some times that he's going to have to DH, especially
trying to get his legs under him and trying to get where you need to be
[because] he's missed a little over four weeks. We want to get him into
seeing Major League pitching and make those adjustments as soon as he can."
「大叔饿了很久。」
The success that the Halos have enjoyed in spite of Anderson's absence --
23 wins in 34 games -- has highlighted the depth of a team that has had to
utilize the DL 11 times this season. The emergence of Willits as a legitimate
talent only bolsters that claim. In the interest of maintaining continuity,
Scioscia said he would like to keep Willits in the lineup as often as
possible, with Anderson remaining "a big piece of what we do."
说瞎虽然脑残,但也知道威姬必须每天上场。
"Reggie's going to need some time off, too," Scioscia said. "I mean, you see
him every day. At some point he's going to need some breaks here and there.
When guys are such an important part of the game, you want to keep them as
fresh as you can, and when you look at Reggie, I don't know if our goal is to
keep him in the outfield every day, but certainly with the continuity that's
happened offensively, especially with Reggie getting into the leadoff role,
that's something we want to keep right now."
威姬加油。
以下是充版面的东西
Day off: Orlando Cabrera and Casey Kotchman did not start on Sunday after
playing consecutively for 16 days.
"It's a day off for Orlando and a day off for Kotch," Scioscia said. "We want
to give his legs a chance to recharge. It's the same with Orlando. These guys
are playing pretty much every day, so we'll give them a break. ... No matter
how consistent the lineup is or how productive it's been, guys need a day off
and we're at that stage."
The duo have been on a tear lately, with Cabrera batting .372 in May and
scoring eight runs in his last 10 games. He is tied for the club lead with 36
runs. Kotchman has 14 RBIs in his last 20 games with a .300 average, fifth
best among AL first basemen. He has five home runs and surprisingly leads the
club with three triples.
卡布和烤鸡休假。
Injury update: Justin Speier, on the DL with a stomach ailment, went 1 2/3
innings for Rancho Cucamonga on Saturday. He surrendered two hits, a run and
a walk while fanning two batters. His next scheduled game at Rancho is
Wednesday.
史拜耳胃病初癒,复健中。
Infielder Maicer Izturis, still out with an irritated right hamstring, will
begin a rehab assignment at Rancho on Monday.
小 Izzy 复健中。
Double-edged sword: The Halos lead the American League with 68 double plays
defensively, but have grounded into 54 so far this season, good for second
in the AL.
DP 人者人恒 DP 之。
Not so fast: Erik Aybar's first Major League home run -- or at least what
should have been his first -- was stolen by Orioles outfielder Nick Markakis
on Saturday. Aybar smashed a shot destined for the right-field stands, but
Markakis made a sensational leaping grab over the wall, much to the dismay of
Aybar and the Halos faithful.
错过了这次,再等一百年。
Up next: Righty Jered Weaver (4-3, 4.25 ERA) faces Twins right-hander Boof
Bonser (4-1, 3.61) at Angel Stadium on Monday at 7:05 p.m. PT.
接下来是织织公主接客。
