Hopefully you Oakland Athletics fans can afford the shock. The 2002 Cy Young
Award winner Barry Zito is going to the New York City in exchange for Mets
prospects outfielder Lastings Milledge and 2005 draft first-round pick Mike
Pelfrey. Barry Zito is scheduled to start the opening game against New York
Yankees in April 1, now he would replace Tom Glavine to start the Opening Day
! Milledge is the top prospect in the Mets farm system and is considerd as a
five-tool outfielder, he hit .337 in Double-A last year, we assume that the
Oakland Athletics will let Milledge begin the season in AAA. Mike Pelfrey was
one of the best right-handed pitchers around last June, but 21-year-old Pelfrey
left undrafted until ninth overall, and the Mets guaranteed the Scott Boras
' client a four-year $5.3M contract this January. Rich Harden is scheduled to
start the opening game and has secure his ace position in the Oakland rotation.
During the passed winter, the rumors around Barry Zito had never stopped,
astounding enough that Beane pull the trigger now and send Zito away to the New
York Mets just before the regular season begins.
