Houston has lost 14 of its past 17 games. Eckstein hit the third pitch of the game into the left-field seats for his second homer of the season. Both were leadoff homers. Houston starter Jason Jennings allowed only one more hit before Juan Encarnacion led off the fifth with a solo homer off the brick facade in left field, his second homer of the season. Ludwick and Gary Bennett followed with back-to-back doubles to put the Cardinals up 3-0. Scott Spiezio led off the Cardinals' sixth with a double to right. He went to third on Pujols' deep fly out to center and scored on Jim Edmonds' single to right. Cardinals starter Braden Looper allowed three singles through the first five innings. Orlando Palmiero pinch-hit for Jennings leading off the sixth and scored on Pence's two-out single to center. Scott led off the seventh with a double and scored on Morgan Ensberg's single, prompting Cardinals manager Tony La Russa to replace Looper with left-hander Randy Flores. Eric Munson singled and Adam Everett reached on a bunt when Flores threw late to third, trying to get Ensberg. Lance Berkman, who didn't start for the second time this season, pinch-hit for Houston reliever Dave Borkowski and hit a grounder to Spiezio, who threw to second to force out Everett. Ensberg scored on the play to make it 4-3. Franklin relieved Flores and Loretta blooped a single to right to score Munson and tie the game. Qualls, who gave up back-to-back homers in Friday's 8-1 loss, started the eighth and Pujols hit his second pitch into the right-field seats, his 10th home run of the season. Pence answered by hitting Franklin's first pitch into the porch in left-center, his fifth home run of the season. Notes: Eckstein homered against the Astros for the second time in his career. ...
