Sam faces the press in Doha where she answers questions about her expectations for the event, her chances of being No.1 and the importance of Billie Jean King’s contribution to tennis and the forming of the WTA. Yeah, I think for sure it’s definitely very high up on the list of achievements that I’ve been able to make. It shows that you’ve had a great year, so they’re two kind of different things, but both very rewarding. Q.你怎麽看待首次进入年终赛，以及今年获得法网亚军的殊荣， 这是你经历过最棒的事吗？ A.这是毫无疑问的，是目前为止我生涯的高峰（以前当双打球后 也很棒耶），这些成绩说明了我经历了很棒的一年，虽然拿亚 　军和年终赛是两回事（没有亚军绩分 你哪能来这里...），但 同样意义非凡。 What’s the key to getting here? Is it physical fitness or planning your schedule or what? I think it’s a mixture of things. Obviously you’ve got to stay healthy for a big period of the year to be able to play enough events and do well and obviously have enough wins. I think scheduling plays a big part as well, and, yeah, I guess performing at the big events. This year I’ve had some really good results in big tournaments, and also missed a few and not done so well. So I think to be able to make it still with not being able to play a couple of those big tournaments I think kind of shows that I’ve had a good year. Q.所以引领你来此地的关键是什麽？是身体健康（头好壮壮）还是 　你对排赛程很有一套？或是其它因素？ A.我想你说的那些都有影响。当然你必须一直维持健康状态一整年 　，才能参加足够的比赛，更重要的是还要赢得够多才行。 　 　赛程安排在这当中扮演很重要的角色，我今年在一些大比赛有不 　错的成绩，但也错过了一些机会，没能做到最好。但总结下来还 　算是不错的一年。 　　 Coming into the tournament, what’s your expectations for this? What’s the key to winning it for you? I would love to obviously get through the round robin stage. From there you never know. First things first. You’ve got to play three matches and see how you go there. It’s tough conditions outside. It’s very hot and humid. So I think conditioning and really being able to get used to the heat before playing those matches is going to be key. And then you’ve got to play well. You’re playing the best players in the world, so you can’t go out there and, I guess, play averagely and expect to get through. I think in a way that kind of takes pressure off, knowing that you have to play well to get through. Yeah, you’ve got to give it your best and go for it. I think the players who can I guess do that day in, day out through this round robin period will be the ones to get through. Q.对你而言参加年终赛，有什麽期望，以及你认为获胜的关键点是什麽？ A.我想先通过小组循环赛，然後才能确定我能否继续走得更远，外面真的 　非常热而且很潮湿，有点让人难受的天气，在比赛前我必须先适应这里 　的高温，这会是关键之一。 　然後我必须打的超棒。对手都是世界顶尖的佼佼者，不能只是走到那里 　发挥的普普就期望能获胜。不过这样想，反倒让我没压力地放开来打， 　因为我明白必须向自我极限挑战。 　总之就是尽情发挥＆追逐胜利啦～。 You’ve already played in this event a couple of times in doubles. You won it. What’s the difference? Were you at times jealous about the other girls playing the singles tournament here? Sure, I would have always loved to be here for singles and not just doubles. Yeah, it’s a little bit different being in the singles when obviously you have all of this kind of stuff to do. A lot more goes into the singles event than the doubles. I think maybe having a little taste in the previous years is gonna help me hopefully. Yeah, I guess it’s an extra a little bit special being in the singles event. Q.你以前曾打过双打年终赛而且还获胜了（拍手），跟这次有什麽不同？ 　那时你会羡慕其他参加单打年终赛的选手吗？ A.我超羡慕的！我一直都很想打单打年终，而不是只有局限在双打，不过 　是有点不一样啦，打单打好像比较受媒体瞩目，然後我一直在参加诸如 　类的行程，比双打来的多很多。希望我过去打双打年终的经验，能稍稍 　派上用场，整体来说打单打比较特别一点。 　 With it being 40 years on since the original Virginia Slims event which Billie Jean King started, what respect do the current players have for the original nine that broke away 40 years ago? Without them, who knows if we would be here now or whether it would be who knows when this could have or may have happened. I think we’ve really got to say thank you to those nine, especially Billie Jean, to stand up not just for women’s tennis but women in general. Q.自从WTA创始灵魂人物－Billie Jean King，首次举办女子赛事，已届满 　４０年了，你认为那９位创始人在哪方面，影响了现今女子球员？ A.没有她们，我们现在就不知身在何处，会面临怎样的待遇，真的非常感谢 　那９个人，尤其是Billie Jean大姐，不只是站出来为女子网坛争取权益， 　也影响了全部的女人。 Does seeing Wozniacki get to No. 1 give you extra encouragement that even though you’re older you still have it in you to get to the top? Yeah, I would like to think so. I’m where I am now and definitely striving to get higher. Yeah, I’m a little bit older than Caroline, but I still feel young enough to be able to play out here for another four or five years yet. It’s the best time of my career so far, so I think to be able to look forward and ahead is, yeah, it’s bright, I think. If I can keep going the way I’m going, hopefully I can get up there or close to there as well. Q.你看到丹麦妹荣登球后宝座，这对你有鼓励作用吗？让你即使比她年长， 　但仍想追逐世界第一的宝座？（是WOZ太年轻好吗　= =） A.当然啊，我也这麽想耶～。我都来到这里了（小小的TOP 8），我一定会 　努力爬得更高的。嘿啦，我承认跟她比我是有一点点点.......老，但我 还是觉得我还够年轻可以打球啦，至少可以再打４～５年喔！！ 　未来是光明的！这是我职业生涯最棒的时刻，我想持续不断地前进，希望 　最後我能当上世界第一，不然只是接近也可以啦。 --
