Rafter new Davis Cup captain Canberra,20 October 2010 Former world No.1 Pat Rafter is Australia’s new Davis Cup captain. Rafter replaces current captain John Fitzgerald, who has announced his retirement from the role after 10 years at the helm. World-renowned coach and Australian tennis legend Tony Roche will also return to the Davis Cup team as Davis Cup coach. Tennis Australia’s Director of Tennis Craig Tiley announced the changes today, proclaiming a historic new era in the sport. “Pat has such a passion for Davis Cup and for the sport in general. My standards and expectations are extremely high. I think we can make a very substantial contribution to Australian men’s tennis,” he said. Australia’s most successful Davis Cup player Lleyton Hewitt welcomed the news. “I’m happy with the appointment of Pat and Rochey.
