Roma defender Philippe Mexes is at a crossroads and could decide to walk away from a contract renewal, just days after director Gian Paolo Montali expressed big plans for the Frenchman. On Wednesday Montali told the press Roma were "working" on a new deal for Mexes. But those efforts could be scuppered by the stopper, who wants guarantees of regular action after expressing doubts in relation to Nicolas Burdisso's arrival from Inter. It was Burdisso who kept Mexes on the bench last term, and he is not enchanted by the prospects of doing it again. "Burdisso came back to Roma and it's obvious the competition has increased again," Mexes told the press. "I risk playing little and my contract will expire. I am seriously considering whether to renew it or not. "If I don't find space in the first half of the season then I may decide against renewing it."
