标题[分享] Educational support for AIDS-impacted children in China
时间Sat Dec 6 01:13:40 2008
I went to a really nice speech today
it was delivered by 白先勇 and 杜聪 about suporting kids whose parent(s) died because of AIDS.
杜聪 was a Harvard graduate and got nice work in banks. He worked as vice executive officer in a French bank at the age of 34. Everyone thought that he would have a bright and happy-forever future.
However, after a visit to local villages in 河南, his life changed forever.
Due to poverty, youngsters had sold their blood to either governmental blood station or illegal blood collectors. Both way mentioned did not collect blood in the right way. They draw out blood from people, take away the blood serum by operating centrifuge and then RE-INJECT the blood cells back into blood donors...
What a hell !
All blood was mixed and then RE-INJECTD back to human body!
As a result, 60% of the villagers was HIV postive and 40% of the villagers got AIDS. Most of them died in years and their parents who were in their 70s or 80s shall take care of the kids left by their parents.
Some of these kids were infected, too. The whole family was in desperate hopelessness not only because of the illness but also due to the discrimination from the society and the "shut-up" attitude of the government. The government did not even admit the existence of these AIDS-infected or AIDS-affected people since the admition equaled to the mistakes of the government.(don't forget the government offered legal blood station) So for a long time these victims live under helpless poverty and misrable
health condition. 杜聪 said that there were 11 funerals one day in a village and most family got only elderly and kids left.
So he made a courageous decision: he quit his job and raised a foundation to hlep those affected by AIDS.
He went deep into the remote AIDS villages and visited AIDS families. He tried hard to persuade the villagers that he really wanted to help. However, the most difficult part was the government. After lots of doubts and unfriendlyness, 杜聪 finally got the government support him with his project.
He raised money and help these kids back to school. Instead of building orphanages and shut them inside, this "back-to-school" way can let the kids grow up in normal society with dignity.
I was touched when he shared his experience with us. He loves this world so much that he didn't want to see such suffering.
We don't have to do such sacrifice as what he did, but we can try our best to make this world better as he did.
Sorry for the unorganized words and bad English...XD

往事总是随风而逝
之所以追忆似水年华
(有人问我,那麽谁来处理想念呢?)
(我想应该是一个淡淡的释然的了解的笑)
