The Tuscans are looking to strengthen their squad with a big summer signing and, after bringing in Christian Vieri, Franco Semioli and Anthony Vanden Borre, their eyes are on a real headline-grabber. Quaresma can play either on the right or left wing of midfield and has been compared to fellow countryman Cristiano Ronaldo. Still only 23, he has played for Sporting Lisbon, Barcelona and has been at Porto since 2004, but was surprisingly left out of Portugal's 2006 World Cup squad. It has been reported that Liverpool's ￡14m bid was turned down, as the club has set a ￡25m price-tag on the player. Although Chelsea, Lyon, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid have been linked, Fiorentina transfer guru Pantaleo Corvino is confident he can reach a deal. This month former Italy Coach Marcello Lippi said if he ever returned to club football, 「the first thing I would do is try to sign Quaresma. He really makes the difference.」 If the Viola fail to snap up the Portuguese talent, their alternative for the role is 29-year-old Jerome Rothen of Paris Saint-Germain.
