In an interview with French magazine Les Inrockuptibles about the new opera he 's involved in, 'The Magic Flute II, La Mal嶮iction', Albarn was asked about h is plans for 2025. "I'm finishing a Gorillaz album," he responded. "One opera and one Gorillaz album seems like enough for 2025! Unless someone accuses me o f taking my foot off the gas!" Gorillaz bandmate Jamie Hewlett also commented on an Instagram post to confirm Albarn's statement, writing: "Yes, the new album is coming out this year," al ongside a thumbs-up emoji. Albarn is additionally said to have told French pod cast Nova that he would be finishing the album within six weeks. It's not yet known what the album will be titled and who might feature on the record. A new LP will mark the first from the project since 2023's 'Cracker Is land', which included contributions from the likes of Thundercat, Bad Bunny an d Stevie Nicks.
